Joel is an MRes AI & ML student funded by Fundación ”la Caixa” to investigate how artificial intelligence can tackle life-threatening multifactorial diseases. He majored in Biomedical Engineering at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) in 2022. Since 2017, he has been doing research and presenting his work internationally, as at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, US), the Weizmann Institute of Science (Rehovot, Israel), the Intel International Science and Engineering Fairs (Los Angeles and Pittsburgh, US), or the iGEM Competition.
His research focuses on the combination of engineering and systems-aware science to make people live longer and better. Specifically, he is now working on the use of multi-paradigm machine learning, computer simulations and biomedical data to assist clinicians in the fight against complex diseases like cancer.
